Your Ultimate Guide to Manifesting Your Dream Life

The idea of “manifesting” change in your life might sound a little woo-woo, but it’s more than making a wish and idly standing by until it comes true.

Manifestation can be defined as “bringing something tangible into your life through attraction and belief” — but it’s also the act of taking radical steps toward change. It’s not only about hope and belief, but also about action and power.

Through the active practice of manifestation, you can make real changes that lead to living your dream life. I’ve read about enough people using this practice to get their dream jobs, attract a loving partner or make their wildest fantasies come true that I believe it works.

I don’t pretend to understand why, but whether psychological or spiritual in nature, manifestation is the real deal — and here’s how to start using it in your own life.

Understand the Law of Attraction.

The Law of Attraction is the core principle behind manifestation. It suggests that whatever we focus our time and energy behind is what we attract into our lives. No matter what we are thinking about, positive or negative, the Universe’s response is always “yes” — so, if our thoughts are negative, the Universe will respond with negativity in kind. Basically, if you change your thoughts, you’ll change your life. It really is that simple!

Create a vision board.

By that logic, whatever we spend our time looking at and fixating upon will also become our reality. To encourage you to keep your dreams at the forefront of your mind, try creating a vision board to hang above your desk or in another place where you will see it frequently. Clip images that evoke your dream life, whether that’s pictures of your dream house, pictures of the perfect engagement ring or quotes about the type of woman you want to be. Then, create a collage on posterboard or pin the images to a corkboard somewhere where you will see them often.

Use the 55 x 5 method.

Want to manifest a specific outcome? For example, want to write a New York Times’ bestselling book? Try writing down your goal 55 times for the next five days and see what happens. There’s no guarantee that what you’ve manifested will occur within that timeline, but there is evidence that writing down our goals makes them more likely to come true — and that repetition helps reprogram your subconscious mind, helping you change the negative thoughts in your brain into positive affirmations that support your underlying goal.

Speak as if it were true.

Whenever you think about your dream, focus your statements in the present moment. For example, instead of saying “I will be rich” say “I am rich.” Speaking as if your dream were true will literally change the way you carry yourself, making you look and feel like someone who’s wealthy. It’s like that old saying “dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” If you want to achieve any goal, the first step is acting like someone who’s capable of achieving it. That starts with the way you talk to yourself!

Use visual aids to keep you focused.

I once read that when Jim Carrey was broke, wrote a $10 million check to himself dated in the future and carried it in his wallet for years. Then, just before the date of the check, he got the call: he was going to make $10 million off his next movie. Using material visual aids like these helps us stay focused on our goals and serves as a potent reminder of what we are working toward. These visual aids make our visualizations stronger, clearer and more powerful. So, if you want to motivate yourself to make money, try buying yourself a bigger wallet, visualizing that you will someday have more cash to fill it, or even fill a tree with Monopoly money until you can replace it with real bills. The key is to believe that one day, your dreams will come true if you wait for the Universe to deliver.

Above all else, TAKE ACTION!

Don’t wait for the Universe to come to you — actively seek what you are looking for and trust the process. One example I read from The Confused Millennial is that if you want to attract your dream partner, try going on 52 dates in 52 weeks. That’s one date a week for a year! This type of action works because the Law of Attraction works in more than one way: yes, the Universe will bring us what we’re looking for if we think about it, but also if we actively look for it. You just have to trust its timing; that the Universe will bring you what you are looking for when it’s right for you.
